Hopefully, publishers are looking Pinterest after Facebook Newsfeed changes.

Hopefully, publishers are looking Pinterest after Facebook Newsfeed changes. Publishers casting about for new referral sources after Facebook decided it wants the news feed to be, ironically, less newsy are taking a fresh look at Pinterest. The big shift last year in terms of referral traffic was Facebook declining as a source of traffic for publishers while Google surpassed it. Pinterest, along with Instagram, grew as traffic sources as well, although from smaller bases. The online scrapbooking platform represented nearly 8 percent of publishers’ social traffic in the second half of 2017, up from 4.5 percent in the first half of 2016,  according to Shareaholic .Claiming more than 200 million active monthly users, 8-year-old Pinterest falls somewhere between Flipboard and Twitter in the size of its user base. Its utility for people — often women — looking for home decor, fashion and menu ideas and the like makes it well suited to lifestyle publishers looking t...

False reports progress 6 times quicker proceeding Twitter than genuine reports

An analysis of posts on Twitter by three million people between 2006 and 2017 shows that fake news spreads significantly more than the truth on social media. Sinan Aral and his colleagues at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) followed the spread of 126,000 stories on Twitter. A tweet was considered a story if it asserted a claim, meaning that it didn’t have to be linked to any particular story from a news organisation. The claims were then fact-checked by six independent organisations, including Snopes, Politifact and FactCheck. “What we found was scary,” says Aral. “False news travels farther, faster, deeper and more broadly than the truth in every category of information – many times by an order of magnitude.” Truthful tweets took six times as long as fake ones to spread across Twitter to 1,500 people – in large part because falsehoods in the sample were 70 percent more likely to be retweeted than the truth, even after accounting for account age, activity level...

Coming Together - Facebook, WhatsApp & Music Videos

Image
Facebook has announced that it has agreed to a deal with Warner Music Group so that Facebook users can post videos featuring music from artists signed with the music label. Warner is the last major music label to sign an agreement with Facebook, as the news of the deal came on Friday. Warner represents a massive swath of artists, from Ed Sheeran and the Eagles to Jay Z and Nina Simone. Under the arrangement,  Facebook  users will be able to post videos featuring Warner-licensed music without fearing the videos will be removed due to copyright violations. Most importantly for Warner's lineup of musicians, the deal means artists will earn royalties whenever users post content featuring their music. "The team at Facebook is creating a truly innovative product and is showing real commitment to its participation in the growth of the music business," Eric Mackay, Warner's executive vice president of global digital strategy, said in a statement. "We'...

Geofencing Technology - How it works?

Image
Have you ever been walking around in a neighbourhood and a location-based alert pops up on your device? If you have had such an experience or a related one, you are witnessing geofencing. Geofencing is “the use of GPS or RFID technology to create a virtual geographical boundary, enabling software to trigger a response when a mobile device enters or leaves a particular place.” Sometimes, the response can also be triggered by a Wi-Fi or a cellular data that has already been designed to trigger the action. Geofencing is also in action whenever you get a push notification on your device while you are prompted with an incentive. You can receive that alert or prompt anywhere where the technology has already being pre-program to trigger a response. How does it work? How does Geofencing work? Geofencing  works by establishing a barrier at a particular location with the assistance of an RFID or GPS-enabled software. Let me put this in a better perspective. Im...
